Plant of the month October
Our plant of the month for October is Viburnum
About Viburnum
Viburnum are a large or small shrub that are very versatile and easy to grow. They can be evergreen or deciduous and provide interest at different times of the year.
The best thing about Viburnums are the clusters of tiny, pretty white or pink flowers that are also highly fragrant. The flowers are often followed by ornamental berry like fruit that are really beneficial to the birds during the winter months.
The best place to grow Viburnums is in a sunny spot or lightly shaded area of your garden, this will guarantee an abundance of flowers. In shade they won’t produce many flowers. They like a good quality soil and dislike very dry or very wet conditions.
Deciduous Viburnum are best planted in Autumn, or as long as the ground isn't very wet or frozen. This gives them the best chance of establishing before the hotter summer weather arrives.
Evergreens can be planted in Autumn or Spring, avoiding hot dry spells and giving them plenty of water whilst they establish.
